To most of us, this is second nature by now, but some people aren't too sure how to go about this. So! I made a super easy 6 step guide to extracting .RAR files with WinRAR.
Firstly, grab WinRAR from here or here and install it. I'm sure it has some kind of express install if you aren't familiar with weird file extensions. (If not, post! I can help with that too.) Any files that are associated with Winrar will look like a small stick of purple, blue and green books.
Double click, or right click and "open with" Winrar.
Press "Extract to"
Choose where you want these files to extract to. I always extract them to my desktop so they are easy to find and move around later. You can use My Documents, My Pictures or where ever you fancy.
Click OK, and then wait. Large files may take a few minutes, but mostly it happens within seconds.
Find your files in the location you extracted them to, open the file and your scans should be in there for you to enjoy!
You can always get rid of .RAR file, or save it somewhere else if you ever want to use it again/store/share/save it.
Note: WinRAR can be used after the 40 day trial period with no restrictions. You are completely free to purchase a copy of Winrar if you wish to. Follow the links given to you by the pop up if you wish to support the developer.
Other help:
Help! My WinRAR looks different to yours!
This is the latest version of WinRar, make sure you don't have an out of date copy! Although, they should work in almost the same way.
I'm also using Windows 8.1, this could contribute to how the program looks.
If your still baffled, post a screen in this thread and we'll help you out!
WinRAR isn't extracting anything!
Are you sure? Are you looking in the right place for them? Check your desktop/my documents or similar to make sure your files didn't extract there instead.
There could of been nothing in the file originally, depending on where you got the file from and if they're trustworthy or not. Your download may not of finished or was interuppted half way through, try re downloading the file you want to extract.
Files on shared on The SFF are trustworthy and work. If any files do have an error or similar on them, make a post and we can sort it!
This file has a password on it! What is it?
Your going to have to find the password! If you got the file from a forum post, check that post or thread to see f the password has been posted. Most people post the passwords along with the downloads, but there are some silly people that don't. If you can't find it, you can try using a program from Google to get around it, however I am not familiar with those types of programs so I am unable to help with this!
No file shared on The SFF has a password.
I hope this helps anyone who is unfamiliar with this! If there's a problem or an improvement to make, post below.
